LOAN ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT (Part-Time Position)

Hartford Community Loan Fund (HCLF) is seeking an individual for the part-time position of Loan Administrative Assistant (LAA).  The successful applicant will possess the following:

  • Strong organizational & recordkeeping skills;

  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and complete assignments in an efficient and effective manner;

  • Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel) & Office e-mail; and

Responsibilities: This position reports to the Director of Risk Management and Loan Administration.

The successful candidate will support HCLF’s lending by efficiently and accurately maintaining loan-related files, with an ability to quickly procure records needed by other team members. The LAA will assist the loan administration function by performing tasks related to maintenance of portfolio quality and compliance, and will be called upon to assist with borrower/contractor/vendor communication.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following: supporting loan servicing staff and the work of the organization by scanning, naming, filing, and retrieving documents; maintaining well-organized loan-related files and archives, including retention and destruction, according to policy; auditing electronic and hard-copy records; conducting compliance-related research and reporting; written and verbal communication with borrowers and staff; creating, processing, and filing of correspondence; updating reports. This position offers flexibility for the employee to choose work hours during HCLF’s business day. Fluency in Spanish is a plus, but not required.

Compensation: Based on experience. The position is non-exempt, part-time (15 hours/week) and is not eligible for benefits.

LOAN SERVICING SPECIALIST (Full-time position)

Hartford Community Loan Fund (HCLF) is seeking an individual for the full-time position of Loan Servicing Specialist (LSS). The successful applicant will possess the following:

  • Excellent quantitative and computer skills, including MS Office applications; Experience with loan servicing systems, database systems, and/or Crystal Reports a plus;

  • Extremely well organized with strong attention to detail; 

  • Strong customer service skills; effective verbal and written communicator;

  • Excellent time management skills—ability to prioritize effectively among competing tasks; and

Responsibilities: This position reports to the Director of Risk Management and Loan Administration. The LSS must be able to proactively assist other staff members with various lending functions and provide staff with requested loan information in a quick and accurate manner. The LSS will draft courteous, professional correspondence to HCLF borrowers, respond to customer inquiries, process customer payments and monitor/follow up with customer delinquencies, loan compliance and other matters with phone calls and written correspondence.

The successful candidate will support HCLF’s lending by performing a wide range of loan servicing tasks, including but not limited to: auditing new credit files, booking new loans, assisting with closings, reconciling accounts, processing payments and disbursements, managing escrow, performing collections activities, monitoring covenant compliance, and producing system-generated statements and reports. The LSS will be responsible for properly documenting servicing activities, and for assisting with the maintenance of accurate and complete electronic and paper files.

HCLF is seeking candidates with a background in loan servicing, lending, or accounting. HCLF will train on its loan servicing software.

Compensation: Based on experience. The position is non-exempt, fulltime (37.5 hours/week) and is therefore eligible for benefits. HCLF benefits include medical, dental, longterm disability/life insurance, and participation in HCLF’s retirement plan.

Community Development Mortgage Loan Officer (Full-time position)

Position Summary: The Community Development Mortgage Loan Officer (LO) performs a range of lending activities to originate and underwrite CRL Program mortgage loans for single, multi-family and mixed-use properties, assist in the marketing of HCLF’s construction loan products as well as permanent loan products. The LO reports to the Director of Mortgage Lending and works closely with other HCLF staff members who assist in processing, closing and servicing loans. Through HCLF brokerage relationships, the LO will also provide conventional mortgage products to prospective borrowers in HCLF’s investment area.

Responsibilities: Following are responsibilities of the LO, which include, but are not limited to:

  • Increase visibility of HCLF loan products in underserved areas and to underserved populations through marketing and new business development activities with realtors, current/potential homeowners, investors, contractors, developers, and other stakeholders to generate business and meet organizational production goals;

  • Provide technical assistance to customers on housing finance, subsidy sources, property/construction management, risk mitigation and other housing-specific topics;

  •  Ensure collection of all supporting documentation and process the application in a timely manner. Communicate effectively with customers, realtors, attorneys, staff and other stakeholders to efficiently process and close the loan;

  • Prepare Loan Approval Summary recommendations for management and Loan Committee review in accordance with the HCLF underwriting guidelines. Present the final Loan Approval Summary to Loan Committee for approval. Prepare Commitment Letters for approved loans;

  • Conduct property site visits as necessary;

  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.

Requirements: The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • NMLS licensing as Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) with five years of recent work experience as MLO;

  • Bachelor’s Degree;

  • Commitment to social justice issues and high quality affordable housing;

  • Good written and verbal communication skills; ability to make effective public presentations to a range of audiences;

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software program, use of email and internet, and other software applications, as required. HCLF will provide necessary training to the LO specific to the management of its Construction-Rehab lending process.

Compensation and Benefits: HCLF offers a combination of:

  • Fixed Salary ($40,000 - $51,000 depending on experience)

  • Commission on HCLF-direct CRL Program mortgage loans (100 bps)

  • Commission on HCLF-brokered mortgage loans (75 bps)

  • Additional incentive for achievement of organizational lending goals
